Loughborough University holds a Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) Higher Education Licence which allows members of staff to make digital copies of extracts from published printed documents. However, the details of each scan must be recorded and given to the Designated CLA Coordinator from your department. Please note some publications are not included within the CLA’s licence and therefore should not be scanned.
This licence to scan can be particularly useful if you wish to incorporate an image, figure or illustration into your lecture slides which are subsequently uploaded onto Learn. For lecture slides which are only used in face-to-face teaching and not included on Learn then it is likely that exceptions in the law will cover this instead.
We do not advise you to scan book chapters or journal articles as this service is already provided by the library and can be requested via the online reading lists. If you need advice on how to do this then please contact your Academic Librarian.
For further advice on scanning please refer to this page on ‘How to scan printed materials’ for full details of the selection and reporting process. Alternatively contact the Copyright Advisors for further advice.
